Gary Rooprai is the big stack to end Day 1b with more than 1 million in his bag. Joon "Huge Hammer" Park found his hammer again with a stack of 664k with Ron Lightning, Leo Zhang, and Mehmet Siginc rounding out the top 5.

Dau 1b is now over with 29 players remaining and 31:20 left in Level 18. That means they'll roll back to 16 for Day 2 with about 5 minutes to play before Level 17 jumps to 60 minutes,
Stay tuned for a look at the stacks and seats shortly.
Kyle Bonazzo just got a chip up through Zhi Jiang. I picked up the action on the turn with the board reading and both players checked to the river. Bonazzo checked again and Jiang fired out 35k, sending Bonazzo into the tank for a bit. He eventually tossed in the call, and Jiang mucked face down after Bonazzo showed for the flopped pair.
They are now down to 30 players and hand=for-hand to the end of the night. Brent Urich just doubled up with ace-five into aces when he rivered the wheel to survive.
There are 31 players left in the action for 1b now with a little less than 10 minutes to play in Level 16. It looks like they'll go into Level 17 tonight, but likely not much farther than that.
They are now jus 4 players off the end of the night with just under 30 minutes to play in Level 16. It looks likely the night will end sometime this level or early in 17.
They are on a break now with 35 players left in Day 1b and it looks like Gary Rooprai is the chip leader with more than 850k. Joon Park looks to be second with just over 500k and Ron Lightning has about 485k. Zhi Jiang and Sarvesh Pershad are both playing just over 300k side-by-side for what look to be the 4th and 5th stacks in the game now.
There are just 36 players left in Day 1b now and they are breaking a table for the final time tonight. The bags will come out when they lose 7 more players at 29 remaining. Level 15 has just over 10 minutes left to play.
The Day 1b field is down to 39 now with 25 minutes to play in Level 15. That leaves them 10 players away from the bags coming out.
Level 15 ha just kicked off and they are down to 41 players left in the game. That puts them 12 players away from the bags coming out, so it seems probable they'll finish up late in Level 16 again.
There are now 45 players left on the final five tables of Day 1b with just over 15 minutes to play in Level 14.
Action has picked up a bit in this level with the field now down to 46 players left. There are about 25 minutes to play in Level 14.
Level 14 is just starting with the 1b field now at 52. That means they need to lose 23 more players before the bags come out, so it looks like today might play a little later than 1a. Day 2 will start at the earliest level Day 1 ended in.
There will be 29 bags coming out tonight and there are 58 players left in Day 1b now, meaning 29 more eliminations will bring out the bags. Level 13 has about 15 minutes to play.
Day 1b is down to 63 players left now as Level 13 begins, That puts them 34 off the end of the night.
It looks like Josh Mercredi is the chip leader right now with about 315k in front of him, but Mehmet Siginc, winner of the PLO Big Bounty game, has 310k for a close second. Peter Griffin, Scott Johnson, and DJ Sharma are all playing stacks in the 200k range.
There are just over 5 minutes to play in Level 12 and players will head out for a break after this level. I'll have a look around to see who is stacking big while they are on the break.
The prizes are in wit the Day 1b field confirmed at 227 entries. That puts 377 in the game across both days for prizes of $354,569. The winner is set to pocket more than $66k while the final table players will share in $224,260 still left to be won by the final nine. See the payouts tab for a full look at the Day 2 prizes, but below is a look at how the final table will pay out.
Place | Prize |
1 | $66,230 |
2 | $46,480 |
3 | $30,690 |
4 | $21,840 |
5 | $16,870 |
6 | $13,860 |
7 | $11,560 |
8 | $9,430 |
9 | $7,300 |
They've just broken down to 8 tables with 72 players left in the Day 1b action. There are just under 10 minutes to play in Level 11, and there is another break following Level 12.
The 1b field is down to 90 players remaining now. I'm still waiting on confirmation of all the numbers but it looks like 29 bags at the end of the night is secure regardless of modifications.
The numbers are still yet to be confirmed, but the entry period ended with 227 entries on the board for today's flight, putting 377 in the game across both days. That will push the prizes almost as high as $355k if it holds, and should mean they play down to 29 players today.
I'll confirm the numbers shortly once all the beans are counted.
The Main Event players are on their dinner break now so entries will be closed in less than 45 minutes. They are now just 5 entries away from the $350k mark.
They are 10 minutes off the dinner break now with 216 entries up for Day 1b. They still need 7 more entries to hit $350k in prizes as right now, the pool is at $344,223. There is now just under an hour left to enter this Main Event.
Level 9 has just under 30 minutes to play with the 1b field up to 214. If today's field hits 223, that will put the combined prize pool at more than $350k. Right now, the two-day totals are 364 entries for $342,342
The 1b field is up to 208 entries now with about 15 minutes to play in Level 8. There is another level of entries after this one, and the desk stays open for the dinner break to follow, but once they return for Level 10 the Main Event field will be set. They still need 42 entries to hit 400 total for the game, so that it looking unlikely at this point, but 375 is certainly within reach still.
The combined field is now up to 350 with 200 on the board for today's flight. That puts the prizes just shy of $330k. I've been looking at some estimations for first based on the current prizes and based on last summer's prize distribution, first place is now set to pocket more than $61k. Bear in mind, that's just an estimate. The final number will increase as the prize pool does, and my estimate is based on last year's 18.66% for first place.
There are now 345 entries in the Main Event across both days with 195 on the board for today. Crossing the 200 mark today is a lock at this point, but it remains to be seen how much farther it will go. The prize pool is currently at $324,473 with a bit less than three hours left to enter the game.
After a quick look around on the break, it looks like Ali Razzaq is one of the players stacking chips. He appears to be the big stack in the Social room at least with about 200k in front of him. Lina Niu looks to be playing about 140k while Andrew MacPherson and Trevor Cameron are playing around 120k each.
The 1b field is up to 183 now and among the players playing in the Social room today are Talal Shoush, Ryan Cairns, Colten Yamagishi, Holly Berry, Jen Peters, Thomas Taylor, Jerome Makonen, Steve Azizi, Joe Herlein, Lina Niu, Malcolm Bolger, Ashkan Razavi, and Rob Limpert, though that's hardly a comprehensive list.
I'll have a look around at the upcoming break to see if I can find some big stacks, but there are a lot of tables in play, so not sure I'll be able to find the biggest for certain.
Level 6 is just underway and the 1b field is at 179. That puts the combined field at 329 for prizes of $309,425. The second break of the day will follow this level, and when they return from that there will be three more levels of poker to get into the game.
The combined prize pool just capped $300k with 170 entries on the board for 1b. That puts the combined field at 320 for $300,960 in prizes.
The combined prize pool is now over $295k with Level 5 just beginning. The 1b field is at 164 for 314 in total with 1b action playing out in both the Social and the Poker rooms.
I suspected last night there was an error in the names I was given, and sure enough, the player reported as Quentin Fediuk on the original chip counts for 1a was actually Quentin Siffledeen. I'd seen Quentin in the mix throughout the day and knew he was alive late in the action as well, so when I saw the names I was immediately suspicious. Apologies for the error.
Level 4 is about halfway finished and the Day 1b field has already capped the 1a total. There are now 153 entries for 1b, making the combined total 303 for $284,972 in prizes. Entries are still open for almost 5 hours, so a total field of 400 or more isn't out of the question.
The combined field is now up to 293 entries with 143 on the board for 1b. It looks like today's flight will surpass yesterday's total sometime this level or early in Level 5. Currently the combined prizes are sitting at just over $275k.
The players are on their way out of the room for the first break of the day today with the combined field now over 280 entries. The 1b field alone is at 134 now, just 16 off of yesterday's numbers, so it's still looking good for 200-250 entries today.
The 1b field is up to 116 already with just over 30 minutes to play in Level 3. That puts the combined field at 266 for $250,173 in total prizes. The players will go for their first break of the day following this level, but there are still 6 levels of entry following that break, so the field will continue to grow significantly for a while yet.
The combined prizes are over $240k now with 107 entries on the board for 1b, putting 257 total across both days. Among the newer entries I've seen today was Kris Steinbach. Steiner actually bagged Day 1a last night, but he had barely more than a starting stack when the bags came out, so he's back in the mix today to see if he can't bag a bit bigger. Either way, he's secure for tomorrow's Day 2 with at least his 38k fumes from 1a.
The 1b field is up to 90 now as Level 2 is just underway. That puts the combined field at 240 for $225,720 in combined prizes. At the current pace, a field today of 250+ is completely within sight, meaning the total field for this game could easily be 400 or more.
The combined prizes for the Main Event are now over $200k with 214 total entries on the board. 64 players are in their seats now for 1b and there's a steady stream of buy-ins still going on at the front of the room.
Day 1b is underway now with 53 players in their seats for the opening hands. A lot of the usual suspects are hanging around, as expected, including Ron Lauzon who is in his usual good spirits, as well as Rob Lothian, Joon Park, Ian Alvarado, Dylan Descheneaux, Thomas Taylor, Paul Bihis, Fred Werezak Eddie Seagris, and Ross Wilson, just to take a sample from the three tables closest to my desk and folks I chatted with before action kicked off.
Cards are still a few minutes from flying for Day 1b of the Main Event here at Pure Casino Edmonton, but the field is already flirting with 50 players. There are 44 players on the board right now and a lineup at the reg-desk for new entries, so it looks like they may start play today with more than 50 players in their seats.
Event: | #8 - $1,100 Main Event ($990 + $110) |
Date: | Day 1b, July 27, 1 pm |
Blinds: | 40/60 Minutes |
Start Stack: | 30,000 |
Late Entry: | 9 Levels (~8:15 pm) |
Day 1 Ends: | 12.5% of Field plus 1 |
PPT Ambassador Haven Taylor bagged the big stack from Day 1a with a bit more than 500k, so she will be the stack everyone is chasing on 1b. The action gets going at 1 pm with 30k to start and 40-minute blinds for Day 1 play.
Day 1a played through almost 16 full levels, but that won't matter for 1b as they will play down to 12.5% + 1 before they bag, however long it takes. Whichever day ends earliest will mark the start point for Day 2 with that level finishing out at 40 minutes and the next level clicking into 60 minutes.
