It was a bit of a sunrun for Duff Charette in the Mystery Bounty tonight as he ended up collecting more than a quarter of the bounties in play, including one of the two big bounties worth $7,440. Added to the $19,100 first place prize, Charette walked away with more than $30k for the win tonight.
Deuces were good to him tonight. He busted two players with a deuce in his hand tonight, including third-place Paul "Squirrel Attack" Meyer who had his jacks cracked by the ten-deuce Doyle when Charette turned trip deuces into a bounty slip. In the final hand, he got there with queen-ten against the king-jack of James Boyd.
This was Charette's tenth win on the live felt, and while it wasn't close to his biggest score, it will push his lifetime Hendon earnings over $1.5 million.
The game is now over and James Boyd had to settle for second place tonight. In the final hand, Boyd woke up with king-jack and was in decent shape against the queen-ten for Duff Charette. Both players hit the flop, but Charette's queen was better than the jack for Boyd but with on the flop, both players were also drawing to Broadway.
turn and river bricked for both of them, and Charette's queen ended up the best. With the massive chip lead at that point as well, the game was over and Boyd, who is looking very trim and fit lately, was off to collect second-place money.
It's a night of bad beats tonight as Paul Meyer just had his jacks cracked but Duff Charette's Doyle. Charette flopped a deuce and turned a second one to crack the jacks and send Meyer to the rail. After the hand, someone on Charette's rail said he had the "sun shining out of his ass" tonight.
They are down to three left now and Duff Charette is building a solid lead. In the final hand of the last level, Charette raised to 200k, then called when Deven Lane shoved his big blind.
Deven Lane:
Duff Charette:
Lane was ahead, but in this game, that hasn't meant a lot. The flop looked fine for Lane, but then
turn and river straightened Charette out and sent Lane to the rail.
It was quite an epic five handed battle with shorties doubling regularly, but the logjam was finally broken when Shawn Caron woke up with and shoved his button for 580k. Duff Charette reshoved from the small blind with
.
The board ran clean for Charette's ace-high and Caron hit the rail in 5th place.
The theme of this final table seems to be "worst hand wins." Deven Lane just found a double blind on blind through Shawn Caron after getting there from way behind. Both players flopped a queen, but Caron's ace kicker was ahead of the king for Lane. There was a single diamond on the flop and Lane's king-queen was in diamonds. The turn and river sparkled for Lane and he came from way behind to pull the double from Caron.
So far tonight, it seems the worst hand is winning most of the time when it goes to showdown.
Shawn Caron shoved the button, and Paul "Squirrel Attack" Meyer snapped him off from the big blind. Meyer had the covering stack and against the
for Caron.
The board was all Caron, however, as it ran out giving him his ten in the window.
James Boyd opened the button to 180k, then shoved with less when Shawn Caron repopped the button to 360k. Caron snapped it off with aces against for Boyd.
Boyd let out another yell when the turn hit on a board of as he turned the straight. He apologized for the outburst to the table after the hand, saying "I live in the bush ... I don't get out much."
They are down to five now after Wei Hou shoved early, and big stack Duff Charette called from the big blind. Charette was clearly bounty hunting with against
for Hou, but the
board went Charette's way and Hou was out in 6th place.
Seat 3 quickly followed Dwayne Johnston to the cash cage for the 7th place cash of $2,719, thought I missed the action writing up the 9th place hand. The player has requested anonymity so I won't be publishing a picture or name for this spot.
I missed the action but Dwayne Johnston took the 8th place prize tonight for $2,140.
It was a massive hand that saw Kenneth Skwarczynski hit the rail with pocket queens. Seat 3 shoved 265k and Skwarczynski reshoved a small stack behind. James Boyd reshoved almost 2 million from the cutoff and action moved to Deven Lane on the button.
Lane's "spidey sense" seemed to be on point for this hand, as after a count of Seat 3's and some time in the tank, he also shoved a smaller stack. Both blinds folded to set up jacks for Seat 3, Queens for Skwarczynski, tens for Boyd, and for Lane.
on the flop shot Lane to the lead with two pair and the turn and river bricked to give Lane the quadruple and send Skwarczynski to the rail in 9th place. Seat 3 also took a small side pot.
James Boyd just hit a huge triple. Action was on the flop with the board reading and James Boyd was all in for 584k. Seat 3 reshoved a bit more and Wei Hou called from their left with the biggest stack.
Boyd was on a pair of fives with the gutshot straight draw, while Seat 3 flopped two pair with six-four. Hou was on the heart draw and overs with .
The turn was a to pair th board, but on the river
Boyd jumped to his feet, screaming and fist-pumping as the gutshot hit. The pot gave Boyd 2.1 million while leaving Hou on 585k. Seat 3 took a small side pot to end up with 225k after the hand.
Full stacks for the final nine players are under the Chip Counts tab.
The first player off the final table tonight was DJ Sharma. Sharma was third in a recent Main Event elsewhere in Calgary, and he got his money in good with pocket tens on a nine-high flop against Wei Hou. Hou was on ace-jack and rivered his jack for the win to send Sharma out in 10th place tonight.
One player at the FT has requested anonymity so only 9 of the 10 pictures are posted.
They are down to 17 players left now on the final two tables in the Mystery Bounty. Full prizes to date can be found under the Payouts tab, but among the recent busts was Julius Roque, winner of Event #2 in this series.
There are 22 players left in the Mystery Bounty now with about 10 minutes to play in Level 19. The payouts and prizes to 23rd place are now posted under the Payouts tab.
They are down to 26 players left in the Mystery Bounty now and I have a list of cashing players, but I haven't been following closely enough to know where the bounties have gone so far, though I do know the first $7,445 big bounty is already claimed.
Current payouts will be updated under the Payouts tab shortly.
I'm still working on finalizing the end of day for Event #3 and getting Day 2 sorted, but I've moved to Chrome to finish it off while watching the Mystery Bounty game. That game is now in the money with 38 players left and the top bounty of $7,440 already gone. There will be a second big bounty in the bin when they get to the final two tables.
I'll update the payouts in a little bit once I get the end of E3 sorted.
They are in the final break of entries now in the Mystery Bounty with 273 entries on the board. It's possible they'll get a few more entries before the desk shutters, but entries are nearly closed for Event #4.
The Mystery Bounty is on break now at the end of Level 5 with 213 entries on the board. That puts the combined prize pool at $109,695 with $42,600 in the bounty pool and $67,095 going to prizes.
The Mystery Bounty is underway in the Chrome room now with action in Level 3 and the field at 176 entries. That puts the current prize pool at $90,640 with $35,200 of that reserved for the bounty pool later.
Date: May 4, 2024, 4 PM
Start Stack: 25,000
Blinds: 20 Min
Late Entry: 10 Levels (~8:05 PM)
The side event on Saturday is the $600 Mystery Bounty. The action kicks off at 4 PM in the Chrome room and players will sit down to the felt with 25k in chips.
Blinds are 20 minutes throughout the day and the plan is to play down to a winner tonight so this could be a late one. I won't have eyes on this game until after Day 1d of the 4-Flight bags up, but I should be around for the endgame.
